Mmm Soup

Here's another translation effort, found once again on Koreabeat. I had to look up loads of words for this one, and while I'm sure it's not a perfect translation, you get the gist.

The original article is here.

40 Year-old Caught Red-handed Cooking and Eating 40 Year-old Cheon Jong Wild Ginseng in a Soup

A 40 year-old man who thought 40 year-old Cheon Jong Wild Ginseng worth 5,000,000won was ginseng, and cooked and ate it in a soup after stealing it, has been caught by the police.

On the 16th, Gangwon Goseong Police Station booked without physical detention Mr. A (44 Sokcho City), who is charged with the theft of 40 year old Cheon Jong Wild Ginseng (天種山蔘)[see Note] that was growing in a vegetable garden.

According to the Police, Mr. A is under suspicion of the theft in early June of one root of 40 year old Cheon Jong Wild Ginseng worth 5,000,000won that had been growing in the vegetable garden of Mr. B(70) in Goseong-county, Jukwang-myeon.

It has become known that Mr. B planted some Cheon Jong Wild Ginseng that he gathered from the skirt of Guryong Ridge, Yangyang, in his own vegetable garden and cultivated it like a special treasure (愛之重之).

Called “The Wild Ginseng of all Wild Ginseng”, Cheon Jong Wild Ginseng is well-known for its outstanding natural properties, and for its difficult living conditions in places that are well-watered where a twirling wind blows out from, while being in the half-shade of a cement soil level.

Mr. A pleaded to be treated leniently, telling the police that “I was coming from a friend’s house, and thinking that it was ginseng that was planted in the neighbor’s house’s vegetable garden, I dug it up, brought it home, boiled it into a chicken soup and ate it.”

Note: I don’t know what the first two character combination (天種) means, and it’s not in the Korean Chinese character dictionary, so I’ll just write it as Cheon Jong. The second two mean wild ginseng.

Here's a photo of a couple of my friends eating a similar soup.
