Anti-Spy Posters

I often complain that after living here for a while there is less to blog about, and that things which seemed interesting years ago don't feel worth writing about anymore. The flipside to this is that now I can read a lot of things that I used to not even notice, and I now love reading ads and public notices.

The stuff put out by the National Intelligence Service are some of the best, and are on every bus and every subway car. I had wondered what they are about for years. Here are the ones from 2007, 2008 and 2009. I found them on the NIS website.

2007: The large print on this one says "Awareness of National Security: Satisfy it Securely!" Below it says "A close sense of national security keeps our nation ever more secure. Spies. Terror. International Criminals. Industrial Spies. Report them on 111"

2008: "Be Upright~ South Korean Awareness of National Security!" The smaller print I found difficult to translate, but it says something like "When everyone's awareness of national security is kept straight like a bamboo tree, South Korea becomes stronger, and national competiveness becomes more and more sound. Spies. Terror. International Criminals. Industrial Spies. Report them on 111" Below it says, "Report and Counsel: National Intelligence Service 111. Police 113. Defense Security Command Unit 1337. Reward Money: Spy Ship - A maximum of 150,000,000won. Spy - A maximum of 100,000,000won. Leftist Illegal Acts - 30,000,000won."

2009: "Take to the Air! South Korean Awareness of National Security. Telephone report 111." The information at the bottom is the same as for the 2008 poster, and in the top left corner it says "NIS National Intelligence Service. 111 Call Centre that defends our nation."
